On August 28, 1963, more than 200,000 people gathered in Washington, D.C., for a rally for Jobs and Freedom. Organized by several Civil Rights Activists including Martin Luther King Jr., this event was put together in order to show America the social and political issues African-Americans have across the country. This march would become one of the most significant events that helped vault the Civil Rights Movement forward.
The March on Washington was a huge success. 200,000 black and white Americans came together and enjoyed some of America's most important speeches, songs, and prayers led by Civil Rights leaders, politicians, and entertainers. The most important part of the day was Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech named "I Have a Dream." This speech would become one of the most expressive speeches towards the Civil Rights movement.
Before and after the March, Americans faced years of racial and social issues, but this March was an event for the people that believed and hoped that one day, things would change for the better.
